Dine In Style This Christmas

Dine In Style This Christmas

Make each and every moment of Christmas day special by creating the perfect dining experience. Whether you’re hosting for family or guests, embellish your delicious festive banquet with a beautifully laid table. We have put together a step by step guide on how to create your perfect table which can be interpreted differently dependent on your personal style.

number one

Choose your theme

First things first, you must choose your tables colour scheme before you can begin anything. If you’re looking to create a traditional table opt for classic red, green and gold for a wholesome feel and use greenery and fruits for a bright and seasonal touch.

Alternatively use white and silver for a more minimalist Scandinavian style and use sprinklings of rose gold and copper for a fashionable and glitzy finish. Often, using less colours can have a larger impact and a more refined appearance. We would always recommend a personal touch by using mini presents on each place setting which will also add some decorative interest.

Lay it early

Get ahead of the game and avoid the mad Christmas day rush by laying your table the day before to ensure you have everything you need. Start by placing your table cloth and runner down, which will both protect your table and set a canvas for your finery. Make sure these are perfectly pressed for a polished finish and as long as the colours are selected carefully you don’t have to use your most luxurious linens, a paper cloth or cheese cloth can be just as effective.

Use placemats and charger plates

For an extra special touch, make sure every course is served on the correct tableware. Soup bowls should be stacked on top of starter plates, which will then be stacked on the main dinner plate. These layers create a clash of texture and shape, which sit harmoniously together on top of the charger plate. The perfect way to add a little extra sparkle is by creating a snowflake plate charger on top of a sparkly placemat to highlight each setting and to create a decadent layering. Remember, forks to the left, knives to the right and the desert spoon and fork along the top. Be sure that every guest has both a wine glass, tumbler and champagne flute and keep those bubbles and beverages flowing!

Choose a centrepiece and runner

Nothing finishes your table like a stunning centerpiece. This should be chosen accordingly to your tables style and colour scheme in order to set it off perfectly. A combination of fairy lights, branches, baubles and blooms can work in synchronization when entwined with one another and we just love a scattering of miniature crystals, berries or mistletoe for an enchanting dispersion of interest. This centerpiece will be a talking point for your guests when laid down the middle and be sure to complement the crockery and table cloth. Our beautiful snowflake tea-light holders will sit perfectly with a white and silver table décor for a frosty finish.

Place cards and napkins

Christmas is all about that personal, home-warming touch. A carefully considered table plan and name card can go a long way with your guests, so don’t forget to create hand-written place mat cards for each individual. It is entirely your choice whether you tie them around your napkins or do something out the ordinary and write their name on a personalized bauble or attached to the stalk of a gold leaved pear. No setting is complete without a napkin encased within a beautiful ring placed to the side of the cutlery or alternatively create a lavish napkin arrangement by splaying one out the top of each wine glass. There are many tutorials online that will help you create that dramatic napkin figure you’re looking for!
