Every December, the fashion and interior worlds eagerly await Pantone to announce their colour of the year, with this years being Ultra Violet! Purple symbolizes peace, luxury, creativity with wealth and ambition. Often, it is whats behind the colour than the actual colour itself.
"The Pantone Colour of the Year has come to mean so much more than 'what's trending' in the world of design; it's truly a reflection of what's needed in our world today." – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
But don’t worry, you’re not on your own when we look at this and panic…purple is often one of the hardest colours to coordinate, wear and decorate with. So, we are here to give you a helping hand in how to incorporate this colour into your home and which palettes it harmonizes with surprisingly well!
Blues and Greens
To avoid an over-powering purple catastrophe, use this alongside a more muted and agreeable colour. Using this ultra-violet colour pop with monochromes such as pale grey can help it sit beautifully. Also, when looking at the underlying colour tones behind purple we find blue is a shade which is hard to get wrong and works in almost every home. When sat with navy, these deep jewel tones work elegantly and moodily together, whilst purple with powder blue give a brighter nod to the spring/summer season.
Pinks and Mauves
As we look at the purple colour spectrum, the pink colour family sits not far, and when paired together, can display a calming and serene aurora. This effortless blend can be created through either complimentary deep purples and bold fuschias or pastel on pastel, varying from orchid to mauve.
Mustards and Oranges
If you’re feeling brave and ready to grab this colour by its horns, opt for popping explosions of mustard yellows, fuchsia pinks and burnt oranges to bring your home to life and make a bold, retro statement. We know that keeping up with the trends can be an expensive investment, so, the easiest ways to introduce these shades without splashing out on a new purple couch or furniture unit is through accessories. Rugs, ornaments, cushions and other homeware accessories are the perfect solutions for injecting this trend into your living space.
