Pillow Support

Finding a pillow that offers the right level of support is crucial and can greatly improve the quality and quantity of sleep that you get. Factors such as allergies and your body temperature also need to be taken in to account, though, which makes the process of selecting the right pillow not as simple as first may seem.

Natural or synthetic?

If you suffer from allergies, you should opt for a pillow filled with man-made/synthetic fillings, such as hollowfibre or microfibre, as they are non-allergenic by their nature. If you like to launder your pillows regularly, synthetic pillows would again be the preferred option, as they tend to dry and recover better than natural fillings. Synthetic fillings tend to offer greater support and have more of a ‘bounce-back’, lightweight quality about them.

Feather and down filled products have great thermal properties and are naturally breathable. They tend to be heavier than synthetic-filled pillows, although natural pillows with a high down content tend to offer lighter and more luxuriously soft support. If you suffer from allergies or have a naturally warm body temperature, natural fillings are usually best avoided.
